Daisy & Michael | Barnston Lodge Wedding

“Simon photographed our wedding in Essex this year and we really love all of the photos. The photography style Simon used was extremely natural and laid back which perfectly reflected the feel of our wedding. Having read all the reviews we knew Simon was going to be amazing but he still surpassed all our expectations. Several of our guests have told us that they are the best wedding photos they have ever seen and we would not hesitate to recommend Simon to friends and family. The photos were processed and sent over to us very quickly, we got a professional highlights reel while we were still on honeymoon, which was fantastic. As soon as we got back from honeymoon we got a very well presented box with prints, a usb stick and instructions for our online gallery which makes it really easy for friends and family to download and order prints. Thank you so much Simon for perfectly capturing our day.”

1. TELL US MORE ABOUT THE TWO OF YOU:

I (Michael) work as a business analyst in the finance industry and Daisy is a secondary school science teacher. The most important thing to us in life is family, friends and our little sausage dog, Digby. We also love to travel together and try to visit a new location each year. One of our favourite trips was travelling around south-east Asia where we discovered a shared love for scuba diving.

2. THE PROPOSAL: WHAT’S THE STORY?

The proposal happened on our second night in Mexico, I organised a private dinner in a pergola on the beach. We were picked up from our hotel room and taken to the beach where everything was lit up with candles and I got down on one knee in between main course and dessert.

3. WHAT MADE BARNSTON LODGE THE PERFECT VENUE CHOICE FOR YOU?

From the moment that we got engaged we knew we wanted a really fun laid-back wedding with as much time spent outside as possible. We loved Barnston Lodge as soon as we saw it due to the beautiful grounds which gave us the perfect canvas and freedom to build our dream day with everything that we wanted. Jane, the owner was also amazing, she understood exactly what we wanted and was there to guide us at every step whenever we needed any help.

4. WHY DID YOU CHOOSE SIMON BIFFEN TO PHOTOGRAPH YOUR WEDDING?

We wanted the photography to reflect the vibe of the day with the photos being as natural as possible, we didn’t want anything overly scripted and didn’t want to waste hours of the day posing for hundreds of set photos. We looked at several galleries online and we loved how Simon captured all the natural emotions throughout the weddings he has photographed.

5. WHAT KIND OF EXPERIENCE DID YOU WANT FOR YOUR GUESTS?

We just wanted our guests to have as much fun as possible. We had quite a traditional ceremony in a church local to Daisy’s parents in the same parish as they got married in. The reception was then all about having fun, with a relaxed atmosphere, we wanted our guests to enjoy it as much as we were going to. The cocktails from the VW van bar definitely went down well.

6. WHAT WERE THE MOST MEMORABLE MOMENTS FROM YOUR DAY?

The first time we saw each other at the church was obviously a massive highlight of the day, after two years of planning we couldn’t believe it was finally time. We had an hour at the end of the reception dedicated to Jesters which was the club where we first met in Southampton, known for its final hour of cheesy classics. It was great to celebrate with everyone that we love and seeing them all having such a good time.

7. ANY TIPS FOR FUTURE COUPLES PLANNING THEIR WEDDING?

Don’t lose sight of the things that you really want, add your personal touch to the day. We were really terrible at budgeting, so a tracker to help keep track of your spending is great, although whenever the total went red we just added more to bring it back to green.
