​Although the sun didn’t shine on Sian & Daniel’s wedding day in Penarth, that did nothing to dampen the spirits of the bride, groom and their guests. Sian wore a beautiful dress from White Rose Bridal and her earrings counted as her ‘something borrowed’ from her best friend who had got married two weeks earlier. Lots of thought went into the bridesmaids outfits, which came from Little Mistress. The main concern for Sian was that everyone felt comfortable; she chose navy due to its flattering nature and to allow the brightly-coloured flowers to really pop. Fortunately for the couple, Dan’s mum is a florist so she took care of all of the bouquets and other floral decorations, including a trial run of Sian’s bouquet several months before to ensure ultimate satisfaction! The bridesmaids chose their own shoes, each ending up with a different colour to add a bit of individuality and they were each were also given a pearl bracelet with their initial on it on the morning of the wedding.

Their ceremony was held in the parish church in Penarth, near Cardiff, where the couple bought their first home together and the service was punctuated by some fabulous singing from the church choir (of which Sian is an enthusiastic member). Bridesmaid Jo had some extra pressure on the day due to her resuming her usual role of conducting the singers and they sneakily changed the words of one of their songs, ‘Johnny Angel’, to ‘Danny Angel’ as a surprise for the couple. After confetti, they headed to the nearby Holm House Hotel for their reception. Sian had first visited Holm House for a spa day months before getting engaged and had instantly decided that she wanted to get married there; luckily Dan had the same feeling when they went for pre-dinner cocktails on the day they got engaged! Attracted by the boutique feel and that they could have exclusive use of the venue, they also loved that there were plenty of different, cosy rooms for their guests to relax in. One bonus of the weather was that the beautiful Penarth Pier nearby with usually fabulous views across the Bristol Channel was totally deserted and the couple were keen to take a stroll in the blustery conditions to get pictures of those special post-ceremony moments.

When it came to the finishing touches, the couple gave a nod to their proud Welsh heritage with amusing table names which were puns on famous books and film titles - they even matched them to the guests on the table, for example sitting their friends from a certain Welsh town on ‘20,000 leagues under Swansea’. There was no shortage of family and friends to help with all of the finer details, from the bridesmaids helping out with the invitations, to Sian’s mum making a whole heap of Welsh cakes as favours for the guests. The simply-decorated cake was made by a school friend of Sian’s and comprised of two layers of Victoria sponge and one of carrot cake. The couple really kicked off their evening party vibe with a first dance to Andy William’s ‘Can’t take my eyes off of you’ - a song with special significance for Sian and her dad, who had sadly passed away in 2011. Friends were under strict instructions to join in the dancing as soon as the drums kicked in and they were only too happy to oblige. The resulting pictures of their friends flooding the dance floor turned out to be one of Sian’s favourites from the whole day - check out the party shots towards the end of the blog to see exactly what she means!
