My wedding image editing process... yes I use AI!

How I Edit Your Wedding Photographs

I have been editing my own wedding photographs since 2009 and it is a process that has got quicker (the weeks spent individually editing images in Photoshop were quite tiresome!) and more consistent over the years as I have refined and practiced my process making images ready. After each wedding I very much enjoy the aspect of sitting down and going through all those moments I've captured. In my head I replay the whole scene and select images to build the story. I always do my own culling (choosing of images) as I know which moment or creative shot was the likely winner when I took it, and an AI algorithm isn't quite there for that part yet!

With the rise of AI, photographers have seen its implementation take hold in the workflow stage. Although it has been around for a few years, when I initially tried it when it first came out I wasn't overly impressed. I was spending the same amount of time correcting and adjusting after AI had done its edit! Nowadays, things have moved along to a much better standard and as an Aftershoot Founder I can rely on it to bring my images to a state much closer to where I would like them to be.

So how does it work? Well, firstly it is trained to learn how I have edited tens of thousands of my own images and what I did to achieve the result. It then does some very clever machine learning to put that all into practice on the next images I give it so that I have a result very close to what I would do in Lightroom when editing. That being said, I still go through every image and tweak, adjust and improve. This is all part of my hands-on approach to making sure that I am fully involved in the editing process to best make that image shine.

Use the interactive slider below to see a few sample unedited images compared with my final edit. I hope it gives you an insight into how I edit and the result, which I think is clean and natural, bringing the best out of the photograph and not over doing anything. I believe the best images are ones that will still look great in years to come, not ones that you get tired of because they were trying to be trendy or are heavily filtered with colours that didn't represent the real life ones. A consistent edit and an efficient workflow means I can give more of my energy into the service and experience that my couples receive.
