Festival wedding in Salcombe | Vix & Joey

I love photographing weddings in Devon, and Salcombe (where Vix and Joey chose to tie the knot) has to be up there with one of my favourite Devon locations. The beautiful coastal town sits on the Kingsbridge Estuary and has stunning views of both coast and countryside. The happy couple chose to hold their ceremony at Holy Trinity Church, where guests were treated to incredible a cappella music from some of the Bath-based Vocal Works Gospel Choir, who Vix sings with. After their ceremony, the wedding party and their guests made their way down to Salcombe’s gorgeous North Sands beach for fizz and cheese straws on the sand - who could resist a trip to the beach when you’re in such a location?

The Reception

Following our sojourn to the beach, we all re-located to the stunning Broad Downs Barn in Marlborough, 5 minute’s drive away, where the remainder of the day was held. The reception had a truly festival-inspired theme with the open-sided marquee fully decked out with long trestle tables, bunting, fairy lights and flowers. Nibbles in the form of mini Pimms, sweetcorn fritters, sausages and popcorn were served up to hold off the hunger until the feast began! The wedding breakfast was ingenious: a picnic-style affair, served in hampers for the guests to share amongst themselves, resulting in lots of friendly chatter and full stomachs - probably wise as there were also bottles of home-made flavoured vodka distributed along the tables! Cream teas and a homemade cake table accompanied the brilliant speeches and ensured all the guests were well and truly full and the sunglasses as favours made for some cracking photos!

The evening celebrations were well and truly kicked off by a phenomenal first dance from the couple, which they had prepared with help from their friend Kim, a dance teacher at K4Kim Dance. The amazing moves were accompanied by confetti canons and inflatable trumpets, all accompanied by the incredible electro-swing beats from Still Moving DJs who provided entertainment through the daytime reception and into the night. Revellers were encouraged to make full use of the well-stocked fancy dress box and delicious evening food was provided in the form of wood-fired pizzas. An open campfire as the stars came out really completed the festival vibe and with no official end time and late-night sets on the decks by friends of the couple, guests partied until they could party no more - certainly a wedding to remember!
