The Joy of Winter Weddings
Winter Wedding Photography
Ah winter weddings! There’s just something special about them. Could it the fact there’s less pressure on having it outside and with good weather? (although it’s always a treat if it is sunny!), or is it the subtleties in the light at this time of year, or the transformation of venues that decorate and bring the joy of the season inside? Maybe it’s just because it gets dark sooner and people are ready to get on the dance floor earlier, nothing beats a good party when it’s wild outside!
Whatever the reason, one thing stays the same: the central theme of any wedding is about the coming together of friends and family to celebrate the marriage of two people wholly committed to a life together. My job is to capture the moments that unfold, the connections, and allow the story to develop unaffected by my actions. With story-telling in this documentary way you get a real sense of the feeling and atmosphere and you and your guests are able to be fully present in the moment.
Winter wedding photography has it challenges; from the temperature change between outside and inside which can sometimes cause lenses to fog up, daylight hours which are much reduced, and what the weather is doing can play a significant role in how much (if any) time can be spent outside. This leads to people being inside for much of the day where space may be more limited. Therefore, it is of even greater importance that when you choose a wedding photographer for your winter wedding, you make sure it someone who has experience in these situations, who can deal with the challenges and rise to them and has the ability to work with available light and use additional light sources when required to best capture a scene.
Below are all example images from winter weddings that I have photographed ranging from intimate to grand, all which required a solid understanding of how to best adapt to the environment and situation. If you want to find out more about my approach and style click here.
